State of California 9th grade physical fitness test

9th grade physical fitness test

Each year a P.E. teacher comes from one of the local high schools to test the fitness level of our 9th graders. At the comprehensive high schools the students have been practicing and getting in good physical shape all year.  Our 9th graders need to practice these exercises during their independent study P.E. classes not just to pass the test but also to start the good habit being fit for life.

The 9th grade test is divided into 6 tasks and is designed to test students’ aerobic capacity, body composition, abdominal and upper body strength, endurance, trunk extensor strength and overall flexibility.  In order to pass this test and be physically fit our 9th graders will need to include running, sit ups and push ups in their workouts each week.
